Highway Department in coordination with Town Board secures (2) new MACK trucks for road maintenance and snow plowing. Earlier in the year Town received letter from New York State and local truck dealerships advising limited availability on diesel trucks and encouraging townships to move to Electric Battery Powered Heavy Duty Trucks for highway maintenance and snow removal. Town officials were not in favor of this move and felt persons making such suggestions do not live in the North Country or experience winters as we did in 2025 where are trucks would not have downtime to charge. Furthermore, an electrical motor heavy duty truck was not in production which opened opportunities for municipalities to purchase traditional heavy duty diesel trucks. Westmoreland elected officials worked quickly as soon as window opened to secure (2) new MACK trucks which it will have in possession to dress with snowplow equipment. This move will protect its residents keeping roads clear for next 5-7 years and the Town will likely keep additional Diesel truck taken out of regular service for backup. Town of Westmoreland has moved to purchasing exclusively MACK heavy duty trucks to align requirements and purchases of maintenance parts and repairs at local dealership Utica Mack in Marcy New York.
